Quartz epoxy flooring is a multi-layer resin flooring system where colored quartz granules are dispersed throughout or broadcast into a 100% solids epoxy base coat, then sealed under a chemical-resistant clear topcoat. The result is a surface that is simultaneously seamless, textured, slip-resistant, and highly durable — which is why you see it everywhere from…
Epoxy flooring is not a surface you clean the same way you clean tile, hardwood, or vinyl. The chemistry of the coating determines everything — what works on it, what destroys it, and what makes the difference between a floor that holds its gloss for a decade and one that looks dull and cloudy within…
What Makes Epoxy Flooring So Difficult to Remove? Epoxy is not paint. That distinction is the single most important thing to understand before you attempt any removal project. When epoxy is mixed with a hardener and applied to a concrete substrate, a chemical reaction called crosslinking occurs. The resulting polymer matrix bonds mechanically and chemically…
Epoxy flooring is a coating system — not a standalone floor material — that bonds chemically to a concrete substrate through a reaction between an epoxide resin and a hardener. When that reaction completes, the result is a rigid, plastic-like surface that is fundamentally different in behavior from laminate, vinyl, hardwood, or tile. Understanding that…
Epoxy flooring is a two-component system — a resin and a hardener — that, once combined, triggers an exothermic chemical reaction. The result is not paint. It is not a surface treatment. It is a rigid, semi-permanent polymer coating that bonds mechanically into the pores of a concrete substrate. That distinction matters from the very…
Surface preparation is not a preliminary step to epoxy flooring. It is the installation. Every professional who has coated more than a handful of slabs will tell you the same thing: the coating is forgiving, the substrate is not. You can apply a premium two-part epoxy system with perfect technique and ideal ambient conditions, and…
The DIY vs professional epoxy flooring debate looks like a cost question. It is not. It is a material science question that eventually surfaces as a cost problem when the wrong decision gets made. Most people frame it wrong. They see a $200 kit at the hardware store, compare it to a $3,000 contractor quote,…
A basement floor is not just concrete sitting on grade. It is a slab in direct contact with soil moisture, hydrostatic pressure, and temperature differentials that no above-grade surface ever has to deal with. That context changes everything about how you should think about coating it. Epoxy flooring is a two-part system: a resin component…
Epoxy flooring for a garage is a two-part thermosetting resin system — a resin component mixed with a hardener — that bonds chemically to a concrete substrate and cures into a hard, monolithic surface. Unlike ordinary floor paint, which air-dries by evaporation and loses up to half its mass in the process, a properly catalyzed…
When you are choosing a floor for a commercial space, you are not picking a surface — you are picking an infrastructure decision that will affect safety compliance, maintenance budgets, operational downtime, and brand perception for the next ten to twenty years. Epoxy flooring sits at the center of that decision for a wide range…
